Scott, a Pensacola native, researched USS Indianapolis during his time as a Ransom Middle School student. He amassed a collection of information on USS Indianapolis, and with the help of then-Pensacola Congressman Joe Scarborough, introduced legislation in October 2000, successfully lobbying Congress to award the Naval Unit Commendation to the ships final crew.
