Sgt. 1st Class Isaura Islas from the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment 108th Multifunctional Medical Support Battalion evaluated the trauma medical lanes on Feb. 22 and 23. During this event, she followed the Soldiers and graded them on their skills demonstration. Islas has over 18 years of Illinois Army National Guard service. This Soldier is a senior leader in the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment 108th Multifunctional Medical Battalion and she is also in the dual position of Detachment Readiness Noncommissioned Officer and the Company First Sergeant. She describes her situation as rewarding and is thankful for the opportunity to work closely with the troops in her chain. Islas joined the Illinois Army National Guard to give back to the country that had provided opportunities to her family two generations ago. Multiple things about serving are vital to her, but she stated that respect and responsibility are paramount.
“Respect for others and yourself. Responsibility for your actions and for those who are in your team. I pride myself on continuing to share those two “R’s” with my soldiers, serving others, and becoming a selfless servant in and out of the military.”
