Loren McDonald, chief of hydropower for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District, speaks with Stephen Hill, director of contingency operations for USACE headquarters, at Old Hickory Lock & Dam in Hendersonville, Tenn., Jan. 16, 2025, during a tour of the hydropower facility alongside other USACE employees. Hill’s role involves ensuring USACE readiness for disaster response and recovery across the nation, and during his visit to the Nashville District he traveled to several different sites including Old Hickory Lock & Dam. The dam weathered a tornado in December 2023 that heavily damaged the nearby Rockland Recreation Area, which is scheduled for reopening in time for the 2026 recreation season.
