U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Colton Pavlica, a Las Vegas native, and rifleman with 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, and his leadership, stand for the pledge of allegiance before receiving a challenge coin from the North County Fire District in Fallbrook, Calif., Dec. 10, 2024. On Nov. 17, 2024, the fire district received a 911 call reporting a motorcycle versus vehicle collision. Prior to the fire and emergency medical personnel arrival, Pavlica stopped at the scene to assist the injured motorcycle rider who had sustained a traumatic injury that required the application of a tourniquet to control severe bleeding. Pavlica was presented with a coin for his actions that saved the patient's life. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Jeslianne A. Torres)
