A U.S. Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II aircraft assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 211, Marine Aircraft Group 13, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, takes off from the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli (LHA 7) while underway in the Pacific Ocean during Steel Knight 24, Dec. 7, 2024. While at sea from Dec. 2-8, 2024, VMFA-211 F-35B Lightning II pilots and crew conducted daytime and nighttime carrier landings on the Tripoli, certifying the squadron to conduct air operations aboard amphibious assault ships. Steel Knight is an annual exercise that takes place in multiple locations across the Southwest that allows I Marine Expeditionary Force to train as a full Marine Air-Ground Task Force and better integrate with joint and naval forces.
