U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Eric Hernandez, an F-35B Lightning II aircraft powerlines technician with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 211, Marine Aircraft Group 13, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, observes the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli (LHA 7) in front of two U.S. Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II aircraft assigned to VMFA-211 while underway in the Pacific Ocean during Steel Knight 24, Dec. 7, 2024. While at sea from Dec. 2-8, 2024, VMFA-211 F-35B Lightning II pilots and crew conducted daytime and nighttime carrier landings on the Tripoli, certifying the squadron to conduct air operations aboard amphibious assault ships. Steel Knight is an annual exercise that takes place in multiple locations across the Southwest that allows I Marine Expeditionary Force to train as a full Marine Air-Ground Task Force and better integrate with joint and naval forces.
