DPAA Predeployment Site Survey operations in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam

U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Matthew Sponagle, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) technician, surveys an area using a CEIA compact metal detector during an investigation mission in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Nov. 3, 2024. The goal of an investigation team is to obtain enough information to correlate or connect a particular site with an MIA, with their findings and recommendations determining what will be scheduled for recovery. There are approximately 1,576 personnel missing from the Vietnam War. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Cole Yardley)
