241120-N-SS900-1019 NAVAL BASE POINT LOMA (Nov. 20, 2024) Juan Fernandez, international programs director, Submarine Force Atlantic, translates for U.S. Navy and Peruvian Navy Sailors during an office call for the Diesel-Electric Submarine Initiative (DESI) at Commander, Submarine Squadron (CSS) 11 on board Naval Base Point Loma, Nov. 20, 2024. The DESI program was established in 2001 by U.S. Fleet Forces Command and partners with South American submarine-operating navies as they participate in fleet readiness exercises. CSS-11, home to four Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarines, which are capable of supporting various missions, including: anti-submarine warfare; anti-ship warfare; strike warfare; and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance.
