Deputy Under Secretary of the Army Mario Diaz met with the Army team at the Presidio of Monterey, the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center, and the Army contingent at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., Aug. 3, 2024. The Presidio of Monterey is home to one of the DoD's preeminent language training capabilities. On any given day, DLIFLC trains over 2,000 multi-service members in over two dozen languages to support the DoD's critical global missions. Col. Daniel Artino, Col. Christy Whitfield, Col. Rich Teta, Mr. Fred Meurer, Lt. Col. Nick Shallcross, Lt. Col. Luke Calvert, and Ms. Noa Vaka shared their missions, challenges, and opportunities as they continue to maintain a relationship and represent the Army in our local communities.
