Deputy Under Secretary of the Army Mario Diaz addresses the California Latino School Board Association’s Unity 2024 event at the Monterey Conference Center in Monterey, Calif., Aug. 3, 2024. Diaz shared stories about his upbringing in the Los Angeles area and honored the impact that so many educators and school administrators made on his trajectory to ultimately serve as a senior civilian official in the U.S. Army. Diaz thanked the superintendents, school board members, administrators, and teachers, including Dr. Stephen Nellman and Gloria Ramos from the Centinela Valley Union High School District and Paul Solano, the executive director of CLSBA, for partnering with the Army to help us better connect to our communities.
