Before heading out on patrol, Sgt. Diego Molina, a member of the 1st Battalion, 296th Infantry Regiment, verifies that all his surveillance equipment is working accurately. On Jan. 15 the Puerto Rico National Guard initiated a state mobilization, Operation TFSF, in which troops will conduct surveillance missions in conjunction with the Puerto Rico Police Department and other state and federal agencies around ports and shorelines. The intent of these missions is to reduce drug trafficking, and other illegal activities across the island.
