CAMP SHORABAK, AFGHANISTAN
Soldiers as part of the Afghanistan National Army’s 8th Corps, 199th Recruit Battalion, made up of approximately 600 personnel, take their placement exams at the Regional Military Training Center. In a manner similar to how the U.S. military tests an applicant’s aptitude to place their skillsets with a military occupational specialty; the Afghan Army administers a similar test to assess a soldier’s ability to function in certain jobs. Based upon their score, soldiers are then placed as medics, team leaders or sent off to literacy school to improve their reading and writing.
