A U.S. Air Force military working dog handler assigned to the 902d Security Forces Squadron applies cool water to a canine medical training manikin’s paw as an 802d SFS MWD supervisor and handler monitor vitals during a pre-deployment emergency veterinary care skills training at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas, Oct. 15, 2024. Fort Sam Houston Veterinary Treatment Facility animal care specialists tested the MWD handlers with a series of possible deployment scenarios, focusing on quick and effective medical treatment of injured MWDs with limited assistance and supplies.
