A U.S. Army animal care specialist assigned to the Fort Sam Houston Veterinary Treatment Facility speaks to 502d Air Base Wing military working dog handlers during a pre-deployment emergency veterinary care skills training at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas, Oct. 15, 2024. Animal care specialists tested the MWD handlers with a series of possible deployment scenarios, focusing on quick and effective medical treatment of canine medical training manikins, simulating injured MWDs, with limited assistance and supplies. The scenarios were followed by in-depth reviews providing handlers feedback on best courses of treatment and areas for improvement. (U.S. Air Force photo by Kathryn R.C. Reaves)
