The dock landing ship USS Germantown (LSD 42) departs Sasebo, Japan, for a scheduled deployment Jan. 15, 2013. The Germantown took part in an amphibious integration training, a certification exercise and multinational combined joint training exercise Cobra Gold 2013. Germantown, part of the Bonhomme Richard Amphibious Ready Group, operated in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility. Cobra Gold is a regularly scheduled joint/combined exercise designed to ensure regional peace and strengthen the ability of the Royal Thai Armed Forces to defend Thailand or respond to regional contingencies.
