A U.S. Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker boom operator assigned to the 92nd Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron, Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington, maintains contact with a U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon assigned to the 510th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron, Aviano Air Base, Italy, Aug. 10, 2024 over the U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) area of responsibility (AOR). Boom operators are tasked with aerial refueling duties, as well as monitoring the aircraft, and aiding the pilots. The U.S. Air Force has created a robust force of Multi-Capable Airmen, who can rapidly deploy to air base operations throughout the USCENTCOM AOR to respond to a variety of adversary threats and proactively address evolving security challenges.
