An MH-60R Seahawk assigned to the "Scorpions" of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 49 is chained to the flight deck of the Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Kansas City (LCS 22) with the crew of the Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Savannah (LCS 28) embarked during a surface action group live-fire gunnery exercise alongside the Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Montgomery (LCS 8), Arleigh Burke-class destroyers USS Gridley (DDG 101) and USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108) while operating in the Pacific Ocean, Sept. 27, 2024. Kansas City is underway in the U.S. 3rd Fleet area of operations conducting Surface Warfare Advanced Tactical Training (SWATT).
