ROCKINGHAM, Western Australia, Australia (Aug. 26, 2024) – U.S. Navy and Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Sailors attached to the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) pose for a photo with Rockingham Senior High School students while the ship is moored at HMAS Stirling, Western Australia, Australia, Aug. 26. HMAS Stirling is Emory S. Land’s seventh port call since it departed on deployment May 17. Emory S. Land is on deployment supporting the U.S. 7th Fleet, the U.S. Navy’s largest forward deployed numbered fleet, operating with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region. Emory S. Land is currently on site to the first-ever Submarine Tendered Maintenance Period in Australia as part of AUKUS Pillar 1’s effort to support Australia’s acquisition of a sovereign conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarine capability. The submarine tender provides expeditionary intermediate-level maintenance, services, and logistics support to deployed submarines.
