The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, and its State and Local partners work to renourish Flagler County Beaches. The work draws in public onlookers as they watch heavy equipment maneuver through water and wet sand. A dredge boat just offshore pumps sand onto the coast as a large crawler dozer pushes wet sand/slurry from a remote-controlled extractor, which is highly reliable for removing oversized beach fill and foreign debris from the offshore burrow area. It is highly effective and allows the team to keep production rates high. Quickly replenishing the beach allows USACE and its partners to provide a robust shoreline with a habitat for flora and fauna and a buffer zone for residents and local businesses.
