This 1cc hypodermic syringe was invented by Dr. Pierre Paul Émile Roux (1853-1933) of the Institute De Pasteur, circa 1890. The syringe was intended to be used for administering either the diphtheria antitoxin serum or the rabies vaccine. Roux collaborated with Louis Pasteur (1822-1895) to develop a rabies vaccine in 1883 and conducted research that established that the microorganism diphtheria bacillus caused diphtheria. The syringe is in a metal case that could be sterilized. [M-179.00044] (Disclosure: This image has been cropped to emphasize the subject.)
