A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biological science technician holds an ultrasonic bat audio recorder and cable ties at Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis, Texas, Aug. 12, 2024. The recorder was attached to a microphone logging specific audio frequencies in a known bat activity area. Biologists entered the system’s data into a software program to identify bat species and activity levels to adapt conservation and preservation strategies. (U.S. Air Force photo by Kathryn R.C.
