Science Engineering Apprenticeship Program interns took part in an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the David Taylor Model Basin and the Maneuvering and Seakeeping Basin at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division in West Bethesda, Md., Aug. 1, 2024. Part of the tour featured a ride on a carriage in the DTMB’s high-speed section, where interns observed a towed model at various speeds and learned how engineers test ship performance in different conditions. Carderock is one of the Navy’s pre-eminent research and development facilities that specializes in critical ship design components headquartered in West Bethesda, Md. The Carderock Division supports small-scale model testing and evaluation of next-generation surface ships and underwater vessels. (U.S. Navy photo by Travis Troller)
