The Army Aviation component of the South Carolina National Guard is ready to support all local authorities across the state with cargo, command and control-situational awareness (C2-SA), and rescue helicopters. South Carolina Army National Guard CH-47F Chinook helicopters are dedicated to heavy-lift cargo operations, whereas UH-60L Black Hawk and UH-72A/B Lakota helicopters are assigned to search and rescue (SAR), damage assessment, and command and control support. Specifically, the SAR mission is performed by crews and helicopters assigned to the South Carolina Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team (SC-HART). SC-HART is a collaborative effort between the South Carolina Army National Guard and the South Carolina State Urban Search and Rescue Task Force (SC-TF1), Office of the State Fire Marshal. The South Carolina Army National Guard contributes to the program with instructors, crews, support personnel, UH-60s and UH-72s helicopters; all military personnel and aircraft are assigned to the 59th Aviation Troop Command of the South Carolina Army National guard.
