    31st Marine Expeditionary Unit

U.S. Navy Lt. Cdr. Edgar Escobar (left), a battalion surgeon, and Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Jessica Cardona, both with Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, document simulated casualties at a martialing area control officer gate during a mass casualty training rehearsal aboard the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) in the Philippine Sea, Aug. 5, 2024. The MACO gate acts a liaison point connecting medical first responders on the ground to medical facilities in order to better facilitate care for the patients in transit. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
