Participants of the “egg drop” competition look on in anticipation, lead by Col. Eli Lozano, commander of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), April 25, 2024. The children’s self-built contraptions, made of just paper and tape and each holding an egg inside of them, are being dropped off of the third floor of WRAIR’s atrium. Whichever team’s contraption delivers the egg to the ground intact, and is the lightest, wins the competition. The egg drop is the culminating activity for WRAIR’s Family and Child VIP Day, which is a day of fun demonstrations and activities designed to foster understanding and appreciation of biomedical research, military customs, and the important work being done at WRAIR.
