Col. Eli Lozano, commander of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), poses with a group of children and their self-built contraption during the “egg drop” competition portion of WRAIR’s Family and Child VIP Day, April 25, 2024. The children’s contraption, built using only paper and tape, is supposed to protect an egg against being broken when dropped from the third floor of WRAIR’s atrium. Whichever team’s contraption successfully protects the egg, and is the lightest weight, will win. The egg drop is the culminating activity for Family and Child VIP Day, which is a day of fun demonstrations and activities designed to foster understanding and appreciation of biomedical research, military customs, and the important work being done at WRAIR.
