IQUITOS, Peru (Feb. 16, 2023) Eder Torres, a field technician assigned to U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) SOUTH Entomology Department, collects mosquitos using a backpack aspirator as part of a surveillance study involving the Aedes aegypti mosquito vector which can transmit viruses such as dengue. NAMRU SOUTH, part of the Naval Medical Research & Development enterprise, conducts research on a wide range of infectious diseases of military and public health significance, and supports Global Health Engagement through surveillance of those diseases, including dengue fever, malaria, diarrheal diseases and sexually transmitted infections.
