Brig. Gen. William “Bill” Hannon, Northwestern Division Commander, visits the Kansas City District Levees Mega Project in Kansas City, Missouri. The KC Levees project, a $529 million initiative, aims to enhance the flood protection for 17 miles of levees in the Argentine, Armourdale, and Central Industrial Districts of Kansas City. Following the Great Flood of 1993, which nearly breached the existing levees, a study revealed the need for improvements. The project will raise the levees by an average of 5 feet, add stability features, relocate utilities, construct railroad closures, and upgrade pump stations. Beginning construction in 2021 and set for completion in 2026, it will significantly reduce flood risk for 30,000 people and protect $10 billion in infrastructure.
