U.S. Army Lt. Col. Nicklaus Franck, commander of U.S. Army Aviation Battalion Japan (USAABJ), places a patch on Japan Ground Self-Defense (JGSDF) Lt. Col. Isao Kubo, assigned to 5th Anti-Tank Helicopter (ATH), during a gift exchange ceremony at Camp Akeno, July 22, 2024. The exchange shows appreciation and friendship for working together during Orient Shield 24.
During Orient Shield, JGSDF members train alongside service members from U.S. Army Pacific, U.S. Army Japan, 1st Multi-Domain Task Force, 1st Brigade, 11th Airborne Division, 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Marine Division and selected Joint Force service members to strengthen interoperability and readiness between the U.S.-Japan alliance to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific.
