U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Bruno, the mascot for Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and the Western Recruiting Region, poses for a photo with Lynn Congemi, the daughter of Maj. Gen. The mascot’s job is to boost morale, participate in outreach work and attend events and ceremonies. Lance Cpl. Bruno was named after Maj. Gen. Bruno Hochmuth, who at the time of his death was the first General Officer killed during the Vietnam War.
