U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Ricky Rupp, commander of U.S. Forces Japan and 5th Air Force, coined Staff Sgt. James Booker, an F-15 jet engine mechanic supporting the 5th Air Force as an interpreter for Exercise Valiant Shield 24, thanking him for his outstanding work at Matsushima Air Base, Japan, June 12, 2024. During his visit, he spoke about the importance of the partnership between the U.S. and Japan, and the groundbreaking nature of multi-capable Airmen within contingency response units. Exercises such as Valiant Shield allows the Indo-Pacific Command Joint Forces the opportunity to integrate forces from all branches of service and with our allies to conduct precise, lethal, and overwhelming multi-axis, multi-domain effects that demonstrate the strength and versatility of the Joint Force and our commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.
