JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas – Brig Gen Russell Driggers, Commander of Joint Base San Antonio and the 502d Air Base Wing, along with his wife Janet, attended the Quarter Horse Races honoring the memorial of Colonel Gary Baber at the Retama Park Racetrack on June 28.
Col. Baber, a retired U.S. Air Force veteran, served as the chairman of the board of directors at Retama Park for an impressive 20 years. Race 5, the Gary Baber Memorial Stakes, is a significant event where top horses compete at the highest level.
After the race, the winning horse, its owner, and its trainer are honored with a trophy in the winner’s circle alongside Col Baber’s family, Brig Gen Driggers, and his wife Janet. This event exemplifies the collaboration between our military and the city of Selma, fostering connections and shared initiatives.
