Soldiers from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (Honor Guard) conduct a funeral for U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Casimir P. Lobacz at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington D.C., June 17, 2024. In the fall of 1944, Lobacz's unit was advancing through France as part of what was unofficially called the Lorraine Campaign. On Sept. 27, during a ground attack on Fort Daint, Lobacz was reported killed in action and due to enemy fire, his body could not be recovered.
