The U.S. Navy launched a developmental flight test model of the new Trident II (D-5) missile from Complex 46 on Cape Canaveral Air Force Station at 7:49 a.m. on Dec. 16, 1988. The D5 is a three-stage, solid propellant, inertially guided fleet ballistic missile launched underwater from the Ohio-class submarines.
