ATLANTIC OCEAN (May 16, 2024) - A rolling airframe missile (RAM) launcher fires a RIM-116 missile from the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS New York (LPD 21) during the live-fire with a purpose (LFWAP) exercise. The LFWAP program is a missile exercise program designed to increase fleet lethality and tactical proficiency, providing a pivotal final test to ensure the ship’s critical self-defense weapons systems are prepared for an upcoming deployment. New York is underway in the Atlantic Ocean as part of the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group- 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit Special Operations Capable (SOC).
