Airman 1st Class Richard Garner, 721st Air Mobility Maintenance Group Detachment 5 crew chief, examines the nose landing gear strut assembly after removing it from a C-17, Feb. 8, 2008. Loss of compression in the landing gear could cause the assembly to penetrate the cockpit during landing. The rolled and exposed seal was discovered during a maintenance walk-around early that day. Returning aircraft to operational status quickly and efficiently is essential to mission success. Airman Garner is deployed from Travis Air Force Base, Calif.
