Nevada Guard’s Purple Resolve program extends to Governor’s staff

    By Staff Sgt. Zandra Duran
CARSON CITY—In 2021, the Nevada Guard introduced the resiliency training program Purple Resolve. Initially designed for Soldiers and Airmen, this course has since extended its reach to include Guardsmen in other states. Last week, the Nevada Guard led a course for Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo's finance office in the old assembly chambers room at the Capitol in Carson City.
In total, the course has seen 1037 uniformed and civilian employees go through the training.
LT. Col. Todd Brown, Nevada Guard State Chaplain and Purple Resolve instructor, emphasized the course's universal benefits.
"This course is advantageous for every resident of Nevada, beyond just Soldiers and Airmen,” Brown said. “The Nevada Guard is proud to share our knowledge and insights on resiliency with our state partners. Stress is a common experience for all individuals, regardless of their occupational background; it is not exclusive to the military."
"Going back the past two years, the state of Nevada and the Governor's office has helped fund Purple Resolve to bring this to our members on state active duty," said Maj. Gen. Ondra Berry, Nevada adjutant general. "Without the help of Gov. Joe Lombardo and his staff, this program would not be what it is today, so we are extremely grateful and excited to help bring this to members of his staff at the Capitol in Carson City."
This presentation marked the Nevada Guard's inaugural introduction of the Purple Resolve course to state civilian counterparts. The program's inception in June 2021 began with pilot sessions, followed by train-the-trainer sessions to ensure widespread dissemination. Participants are equipped with a manual to reinforce the course's teachings and a mirror to encourage introspection and self-assessment.
Since its inception, the Purple Resolve program has seen significant growth, with the majority of the Nevada Guard's 4,500 Soldiers and Airmen completing the course. This initiative underscores the Nevada Guard's commitment to promoting mental resilience and well-being among its members and the broader community, reflecting a proactive approach to addressing the challenges of stress and promoting mental wellness.
