Marlene Hackett-Hemsley, a native of Tomah, Wis., area, is shown in the 1940s at her family farm near then Camp McCoy, Wis. Now known as Fort McCoy, the installation in the 1940s was busy training service members for deployment to fight in World War II overseas. Tens of thousands of troops went through McCoy during World War II and later during the Korean War time frame, which Hackett-Hemsley later recalled in memoirs sharing her history of the area.
