U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Mitchell Davis, recovery non-commissioned officer, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), distributes food and materials prepared for the local Vietnamese workers in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, April 11, 2024. DPAA personnel and officials from the Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Persons (VNOSMP), combined different skill sets and techniques in order to excavate and recover material and possible remains as a Vietnam recovery team (VRT). The work the VRT completed during the recovery mission demonstrated the shared dedication between the United States and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam that makes it possible to recover personnel lost in past conflicts. There are currently 1,577 personnel missing from the Vietnam War. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Tyrae Straw)
