U.S. Marines flip tires during a St. Barbara’s day field meet on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, April 11, 2024. The ‘busted tire flips’ portion of the competition tested the Marines strength, cohesion and psychological endurance. The St. Barbara’s day celebration is commemorated across artillery regiments in the Marine Corps to honor St. Barbara, the patron saint of artillerymen. Traditionally, units celebrate with cohesion-building events such as a JLTV pull, gun run relay, tire flips, and tug-of-war. The Marines are with 12th Marine Littoral Regiment, 3d Marine Division.
