A U.S. Marine sprints with ammunition cans during a St. Barbara’s day field meet on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, April 11, 2024. The ‘gun run relay’ portion of the competition tested the Marines speed and knowledge of weapons systems. The St. Barbara’s day celebration is commemorated across artillery regiments in the Marine Corps to honor St. Barbara, the patron saint of artillerymen. Traditionally, units celebrate with cohesion-building events such as a JLTV pull, gun run relay, tire flips, and tug-of-war. The Marine is with 12th Marine Littoral Regiment, 3d Marine Division.
