PORTSMOUTH, VA (April 25, 2024) Sailors assigned to the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) participate in a community relations event making meals with Mercy Chefs. In honor of the ship’s namesake, George H.W. Bush’s crew continues his initiative of service to the community through their very own ‘Thousand Points of Light’ community service program. Sailors from Bush worked with 41 organizations across 77 locations in the Hampton Roads area during their ship-wide day of service. Mercy Chefs is a faith-based, non-profit disaster and humanitarian relief organization that provides restaurant-quality meals to victims, volunteers, and first responders in natural disaster and emergencies. They partner with existing like-minded organizations to further their mission by providing food service in underserved communities across the country and around the globe.
