Buildings from the former Simonds Saw and Steel Company, now known as the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program Guterl Steel Site, sit behind fences in Lockport, N.Y., Apr. 24, 2024. As part of FUSRAP, the site is overseen by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, which is working to identify potential alternatives to address contamination in buildings, soils, and groundwater at the site from work the Simonds Saw and Steel Company was contracted to conduct in support of the United States’ early atomic energy and weapons program.
