U.S. Army 1st Lt. Walker Schmitzer, assigned to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), completes the rope bridge to cross the Upatoi Creek during the David E. Grange Jr. Best Ranger Competition on Fort Moore, Georgia, April 12, 2024. The Best Ranger Competition was named in honor of Lt. Gen. David E. Grange Jr., former Ranger instructor and Ranger department director, and who, at one time, commanded Fort Benning — now Fort Moore — Ga., the 2nd Infantry Division, and the U.S. Sixth Army. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the competition and is a tribute to the rangers past and present who have helped shape our Army into the premiere fighting force it is today.
