Capt. Jovan Popovich, project liaison for the Department of the Air Force Massachusetts Institute of Technology Artificial Intelligence Accelerator, or DAF-MIT AIA, poses for a photo at MIT in Cambridge, Mass., Feb. 27, 2024. Popovich uses his previous experiences as an operations research analyst to inform his work on the research project AI-Enhanced Spectral Awareness and Interference Rejection. For this project, the team is testing ways to use AI to enhance the Air Force's ability to detect, identify, and geo-locate unknown radiofrequency signals, while providing tools for adaptive interference mitigation and smart spectrum analysis. This would allow the Air Force to improve communications in high interference environments and would enhance Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions and communications signals intelligence capabilities.
