U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Anthony Lachat, an aerospace medical technician with the 673d Expeditionary Medical Group out of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, opens a Cric-Key kit to perform a cricothyrotomy during a mass casualty exercise during Exercise Agile Reaper 24-1 at Tinian spoke, Northern Mariana Islands, April 16, 2024. The mass casualty exercise was designed to emphasize precedence of patient care in an austere environment by providing a scenario to stress the small medical team and support personnel with an overwhelming number of patients and injury patterns that exceeded the medical facility’s immediate capabilities and resources to provide care. AR 24-1 serves as an Air Force Force Generation (AFFORGEN) certifying training event for the 3rd AEW, a requirement for the deployment of forces. AFFORGEN is an evolving concept that allows the Department of the Air Force to ensure force presentation and force generation models are aligned to the way the service intends to operate in the future high-end fight.
