German Hernandez, a flight equipment technician with Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 39, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, endures oleoresin capsicum spray during a Martial Arts Instructor course on Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan, April 17, 2024. Closely monitored and facilitated by martial arts instructor trainers, the rigorous three-week course prepares Marines to become MAIs by blending intense physical and academic training to perform Marine Corps Martial Arts Program techniques and principles in a multitude of environments. Upon graduation, the future instructors return to their units with the knowledge and skills to supervise and instruct Marines who seek MCMAP belt advancements. Hernandez is a native of Georgia.
