    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Walla Walla District

    Contractors from the Department of Energy’s Water Power Technologies Office and members of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory visit McNary Lock and Dam on April 17, to learn about modernization efforts, which include designing and installing new high efficiency, fish-friendly turbine runners, replacing powerhouse systems and uprating the power generating capacity. McNary Lock and Dam, operated and managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, houses 14 hydroelectric turbines are currently capable of producing a total of 980 megawatts of renewable energy, enough to power 686,000 homes. McNary’s navigation lock allows commercial and recreational access to the Inland Pacific Northwest.
