U.S. Army Lt. Col. Luiz Correa, an obstetrician and gynecologist (OB/GYN) physician (60J) with the 44th Medical Brigade, works alongside Burundian nursing students at the Kamenge Military Hospital, to successfully complete a cesarean section procedure enhancing the hospital’s capabilities, and solidifying proper procedure of this type of birth, during the Medical Readiness Exercise (MEDREX) in Bujumbura Burundi, on April 15, 2024. MEDREX is a medical readiness exercise program, planned and executed by U.S. Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), that allows military health professionals from the U.S. and their African partners to exchange medical practices, procedures and techniques that build and strengthen treatment capabilities, resulting in lasting relationships between the partners.
