Army Col. Jason Deboer and Navy Capt. (Dr.) Melissa Austin, Walter Reed hospital director, kicked off National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week with opening remarks in Walter Reed National Military Medical Center’s lab conference room on April 15, 2024.
The event included a time-honored tradition with Mr. Robert Burgess and SPC Michael Morales, the oldest and youngest laboratorians, cutting the first slice of cake. The celebration continued as HM3 Shokoufeh Shadabi, a phlebotomist and technician for the Patient and Provider Services section in Pathology, received a commendation coin from SGM Dennis Waycaster, Senior Enlisted Leader (SEL), for her outstanding patient service in the phlebotomy clinic.
Lab Week underscores the essential contributions of medical lab professionals and pathologists to healthcare and patient advocacy.
